The review
A conversation, reduced to tannin.
Loose tea occupies most of the mesh. A pale curl of lemon pith, biscuit crumbs, and one improbable sugar crystal interrupt the dark field. The larger biscuit rests beyond the drain with a single break rather than a bite, as if snapped during emphasis.
This is a materially rich catch and a nearly perfect Conjunction. Tea leaves are difficult to read as food remains until paired with their accompaniments; here the biscuit performs that clarifying role beautifully.
What it says about the owner
After the garlic-bread visit, Mara and Tom begin speaking every Sunday. She makes tea before the call and breaks an oat biscuit while it rings. Some weeks she eats both halves. This week one remains.
The call lasts forty-three minutes. It covers weather, their father's maps, and nothing either of them calls an apology.
