The Solitary Raviolo

The review

The singular is doing important work.

The basket holds soft pasta shreds, a pale ricotta trace, and cut herbs. In the basin, half a raviolo rests on its torn edge, close enough to identify the filling but far enough away to remain a Remainder. The two locations provide an unusually exact before-and-after.

“Raviolo” is not affectation here; it is the correct singular and the compositional fact. One parcel was opened, inspected, and declined. The rest of the pot is absent.

What it says about the owner

This observation follows the principal Mara Vale record by eleven weeks. Mara tastes the first raviolo over the sink, decides the center is still cold, and drops the bitten half before returning the pan to the water. Tom and their upstairs neighbor wait at the table.

Earlier entries treat food eaten standing as evidence of solitude. This one corrects the archive. The same posture can mean somebody is cooking for people who have already arrived.
