Parmesan gathers below the waterline. One crouton remains on the white ceramic like a house the tide politely declined.

The review
A coast surveyed after lunch.
Fine toast dust and green herb settle into the perforations, overlaid by broad Parmesan flakes that resisted the rinse. The crouton beyond the basket is larger than everything below it combined. Its chipped corner accounts for the crumbs without surrendering the whole.
The white ceramic makes each fragment unusually legible. It also lends the arrangement a diagrammatic clarity: erosion in the basket, surviving structure on the slope. A simple salad has left excellent geography.
What it says about the owner
Mara has invited Aisha from Civic Measure upstairs to review a disputed bus-turn diagram. Aisha brings lunch in two paper cartons and leaves the croutons in their own bag so they will not soften. They work at the table until the map has arrows in three colors.
The last crouton is not discarded during clearing. It remains while they make tea, a small sign that the meeting has stopped being a meeting and neither person is in a hurry to restore the room.

The larger fragment shows no bite compression. It is logged as an intact Remainder; the missing corner appears to have fractured during rinsing.
