The Red Pepper Compass

The review

North is wherever dinner stopped.

Pepper seeds and onion pieces gather inside the perforated basket, interrupted by three dark green herb shreds. A few seeds have crossed onto the charcoal basin, where their pale points create the appearance of bearings. The flatbread occupies the southeast, bitten once and left crust-side toward the drain.

This is a directional Conjunction: preparation waste below, eating remainder above, with a visual path between them. The compass is accidental, but accident is the archive's preferred cartographer.

What it says about the owner

The contributor, recorded as R-21, restores library furniture and asked that the district be withheld. She cooks after closing time and turns every object—spoons, shoes, repaired drawers—to face the door before leaving a room. The flatbread is the sole documented exception.

That evening she had accepted a position in another city and placed the unsigned contract beneath a bowl. The sink cannot tell us whether she went. It can only show that, for one meal, the food pointed everywhere at once.
